Sina Mirzaei

President

Sina serves as the President of the IPEK Center. Since his entry into the field in 2018, Sina has applied his expertise in human rights advocacy and academic research to oversee the strategic direction of the organization. His role involves coordinating research initiatives, forming partnerships with key stakeholders, and leading advocacy efforts that focus on the Azerbaijani community in Iran. He is responsible for ensuring that the organization's activities align with its mission to advance knowledge and influence policy through research and analysis. 

Sina previously worked in the Association for the Human Rights of the Azerbaijani People in Iran (AHRAZ) as a member of board of directors documenting human rights violations against the Azerbaijanis. Additionally, he contributes as a member of the editorial board at Tribune Journal Magazine and as an associate expert at the Crescent Research Center.

Turkan Bozkurt

Turkan Bozkurt is a dedicated paralegal and human rights activist based in Montreal. She earned her Master's degree from the University of Toronto, where she focused on minority groups in the Middle East, particularly in Iran and Azerbaijan. Turkan also holds a B.A. from the same institution, with a double major in Near and Middle Eastern Studies and Criminology and Sociolegal Studies.

Her unwavering commitment to advancing women's rights, gender equality, and social justice has driven her to collaborate with numerous organizations worldwide, including AHRAZ, AzCivic Nation, Etekyazi, and the Foundation for Inclusive Society. Turkan has played a pivotal role in developing reports on human rights violations and has been a prominent panelist at international events such as the Economic Forum Poland, MESA, and NWSA. In addition to her activism, Turkan has contributed several insightful articles to publications like Geopolitical Monitor, Eureporter, and the Topchubashov Center. She hopes that her work inspires and effect change on a global scale and long term scale.

Vahid Qarabagli

Vice president

Vahid Turan holds a master’s degree in education and society from McGill University. His master's thesis examined the role of subaltern educators engaged in the empowerment of minoritized languages through a Case Study of the Azerbaijani Civic Nation and Turki, where he explored the underground linguistic, cultural, and educational activism of Turk educators in Iranian Azerbaijan during the 1990s and 2000s in Tabriz, and their continued activism in exile, particularly in Toronto, Canada. His Bachelor of Arts is in Sociology, with a minor in Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice from the University of British Columbia. His primary research interests include subaltern education, sociology of language, social movements, diversity issues, inclusion/exclusion, racism, and critical discourse analysis.

Sara Zarouri

Vice President

Sara Zarouri is a dedicated project manager and human rights activist based in Ottawa. She  pursued her studies in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a keen interest in neurology, anthropology, and psychology, particularly at the societal level.

Throughout her career, Sara has collaborated with various human rights organizations, including AHRAZ, Fact Finding Mission, Etekyazi, AzCivic Nation, CSAT, and Crescent center. Her work focuses on analyzing social issues through the lens of behavioral biology, examining the social psyche, and predicting behaviors across different groups. Additionally, she holds a project management position, ensuring smooth processes and the achievement of goals for different companies.

In 2025, Sara plans to further her academic journey at the University of Ottawa. Her primary goal is to illuminate the struggles of Azerbaijanis in Iran, leveraging her expertise to develop effective future strategies.

Behzad Jeddi

Treasurer

Behzad Jeddi is a dedicated faculty member at Des Moines Area Community College and a researcher at Iowa State University. With a deep passion for economics, Behzad's academic journey and professional experiences reflect his commitment to advancing knowledge in his field. Currently a PhD student in Economics, Behzad also holds a Master of Science in Quantitative Economics. His rigorous academic training has equipped him with a solid foundation in economic theories and quantitative analysis, enabling him to contribute to his areas of expertise significantly. Before his current roles, Behzad served as a Researcher and Instructor in Economics at Iowa State University, conducting extensive research and teaching various economic courses. He also gained valuable teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant at East Carolina University. Behzad specializes in Agricultural and Environmental Economics and Network Theory. His research in these fields aims to address critical issues related to agriculture, the environment, and complex networks, contributing to academic literature and practical applications. As a researcher, Behzad is actively involved in studies that have the potential to influence policy and practice in his areas of expertise. His work is characterized by a blend of theoretical rigor and practical relevance, aiming to solve real-world problems through innovative economic approaches. Beyond his expertise in economics, Behzad is passionate about promoting diversity and human rights as foundational elements of a democracy. He has collaborated with human rights organizations to raise awareness about violations against minorities in Iran, demonstrating his commitment to advocating for social justice and equality. Behzad has also contributed to various platforms through his economic and political articles.
